Automatic logon component settings not used by target system (267298)

SYMPTOMS

The Automatic Logon component of Windows NT Embedded enables you to specify a username, password, and optional domain for the target image to use when logging on to the network. However, when using the Automatic Logon component, the target system does not use the username and domain specified.

CAUSE

The username and domain values are not being stored in the target system registry.

RESOLUTION

Manually modify the target system's registry to include the username and optional domain name.

The registry key that controls the auto-logon behavior is:

HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Windows NT/CurrentVersion/Winlogon

The values involved are DefaultUserName and DefaultDomainName. Modify these values to reflect the username and domain name that you want to use.

Steps to Reproduce Behavior

  1. In any configuration, add the Automatic Logon component.
  2. Right-click the Automatic Logon component and select Properties.
  3. Type values for the Username, Password, and Domain in the dialog box. Click OK.
  4. With the Automatic Logon component selected, from the View menu, choose Registry.
  5. Locate the HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Windows NT/CurrentVersion/Winlogon registry key in the registry view for the Automatic Logon component.
  6. Inspect the values for DefaultUserName, DefaultPassword, and DefaultDomainName. You will notice that only the DefaultPassword value has been changed. The DefaultUserName and DefaultDomainName values do not reflect the changes that you made in the Properties dialog box.
