SYMPTOMS

Multiple-function Hewlett-Packard products may not work when you use them on Windows 2000-based computers. For example, OfficeJet G-series fax devices with printers may not work.

NOTE: The fix that is described in this article applies to and is required for only "true" Dot4 (non-MLC) devices. The G-series devices were the first of these. The K-series devices are also true Dot4 devices.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

The English version of this fix should have the following file attributes or later:
   Date       Time     Version        Size     File name

NOTE: You will need verify the file "dot4.sys" is located in the %systemroot%\system32\drivers folder. If not, manually paste the file in the drivers folder.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 2.
