Active Desktop Item Name Displays Question Marks When Web Page Title Contains Unicode Characters (267069)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition

This article was previously published under Q267069

SYMPTOMS

On a computer system that has Active Desktop enabled, all Desktop items with Unicode titles are displayed as question marks (?) in the Display Properties Web tab when the Input Method Editor (IME) for that language is installed.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

On other English operating systems (except Microsoft Windows 2000) with or without an operating system IME installed, the Active Desktop component displays as Unicode. However, in Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me), it is displayed as questions marks.

A Windows 2000-based computer that has an operating system IME installed actually displays the appropriate language in the Display Properties Web tab.
