You Receive Two Prompts to Select the Docking Profile When You Warm Dock a Computer with Multiple Profiles (267067)

  • Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition

This article was previously published under Q267067

SYMPTOMS

When you insert a Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me)-based portable computer, which is in standby mode and which has multiple docked profiles, into its docking station (a warm dock), you may receive two prompts asking you to select a hardware configuration.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur because Microsoft Windows Me establishes the computer's hardware configuration following various events, including resumption of the computer and docking. Some hardware signals both resumption and docking, and other hardware signals only one of these events. On computers that signal both events, you receive two prompts.

RESOLUTION

To work around this issue, select the correct profile in response to each prompt; the computer then resumes normal operation.
