SYMPTOMS

When you click Driver Details for a device listed in the Device Manager, files that are not used by the device may be listed.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because the Device Manager uses the device's installation information file (INF) to compile the list of related files used by the device. If the INF file contains additional unused files, these files are listed in the Driver Details window. However, the additional files are not used, and cannot be copied. The Copy Drivers section of the INF file determines which files are displayed.

MORE INFORMATION

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
