The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition
This article was previously published under Q266950 SYMPTOMS
When you try to use two identical Universal Serial Bus (USB) streaming-video cameras, one camera may work correctly, but the other one may not. Also, when you view the cameras in Windows Explorer, one camera may appear to be fully functional, but the other camera may generate an error message that indicates it was unable to initialize.
CAUSE
This issue can occur for either of the following reasons:
- Some USB streaming-video cameras cannot be used simultaneously.
- You have a large number of USB devices connected to your computer. When a large number of USB devices are connected to your computer, your computer may not be able to keep all of your USB devices functioning at the same time.
RESOLUTION
To work around this issue, use the appropriate method:
Method 1
Do not use two identical USB streaming-video cameras at the same time.
Method 2
Try temporarily disconnecting some or all of the non-essential USB devices that are connected to your computer, and then test to determine if you can use both cameras at the same time.
