Download from a Query to Index Server Takes More Than a Minute Using Internet Explorer 5.5 (266912)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to download a page from the Index Server through Internet Explorer 5.5, you may find that there is a delay of more than 60 seconds before the page appears.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This behavior will be fixed in the next version of Internet Explorer.

MORE INFORMATION

It will take about 75 seconds for the page to be displayed even though the trace from the server shows that the page downloads within the first six seconds. The page is displayed after the port that was used to download the data is reset.

Steps to Reproduce the Behavior

  1. In Internet Explorer 5.5, type the Universal Resource Locator (URL)that is on the Index Server.
  2. Query on a word, and wait for the full return.
