This article was previously published under Q266909

SYMPTOMS

When you install MSN Internet Access version 5.0, on the last screen of the MSN Setup Wizard you are prompted to configure MSN to connect to the Internet immediately. However, after you do so and try to connect to the Internet, you may be prompted to connect to the Internet by using a previously-selected Dial-Up Networking connection.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur when you have a previously-selected Dial-Up Networking connection set as your default Internet connection. MSN Setup does not configure MSN as your default Internet connection when you have a previously-selected Dial-Up Networking connection set as your default connection.

RESOLUTION

To make MSN your default Internet connection:
  1. Right-click the MSN icon on the desktop, and then click Properties.
  2. On the Connections tab, under Dial-up settings, click MSN and then click Set Default.
  3. Click OK.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.
