SYMPTOMS

On a Sony VAIO PCG-N505 series laptop computer, when you disconnect and then reconnect a removable floppy disk drive, and then restart the computer, the floppy disk drive (drive A) may not work and drive E may represent an external Plug and Play device instead of the CD-ROM drive.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur on clean installations that use the driver provided by Windows Millennium Edition (Me), which is not compatible with the Sony hardware requirements.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, visit the Sony Corporation support Web site to download updates for Windows Millennium Edition.
