SUMMARY

In Microsoft Windows 2000 with Terminal Services enabled, you install Microsoft Publisher 2000 and other programs from Microsoft Office 2000 CD2 in much the same way that you install Microsoft Office 2000 CD1, except that no special transform (MST file) is needed.

This article describes how to install Office 2000 CD2 on Windows 2000 with Terminal Services enabled.

Note Running Microsoft Publisher on individual users' computers is different from running Publisher in a Windows Terminal Server environment. When you install Publisher on a Terminal Server computer, the users who connect to the server are limited to your Publisher configuration. In other words, all users who run Publisher from the Terminal Server computer inherit the features that you select and the options that you set during installation. If your users need different sets of Publisher functionality, you might need several Terminal Server computers, one for each unique Publisher configuration.

MORE INFORMATION

To run Setup for CD2, you must use the Add/Remove Programs icon in Control Panel, and you must have Terminal Services installed and enabled. You must also configure the Terminal Services mode to be in Application Server mode in order for multiple Terminal Server clients to run Microsoft Office.

Please consult your Microsoft Windows 2000 documentation and Microsoft Windows 2000 online Help for more information about installing and configuring Terminal Services.

To install Office 2000 CD2 on Windows 2000 Terminal Server, follow these steps:
  1. In Control Panel, double-click Add/Remove Programs, click Add New Programs, and then click CD or Floppy.
  2. Click Next.
  3. Click Browse.
  4. In the root folder of the Office Disc 2, click Setup.exe, and then click Open.

Setup.exe is added to the command line for the installation program box.
  5. At the end of the command line, type the following property after Setup.exe, separated by a space:

    NOUSERNAME=True

With this property setting, Publisher prompts each user for a user name when they run the program for the first time.
  6. Click Next.
  7. Type the CD key and the organization, but leave the user name and initials blank for the customer information. Click Next.
  8. Click to accept the terms of the license agreement, and then click Next.
  9. In the Microsoft Office 2000: Ready to Install dialog box, click Customize.
  10. Specify the path to install Office 2000, and click Next.
  11. If you see the Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 Upgrade dialog box, select your upgrade choice, and then click Next.
  12. In the Microsoft Office 2000: Selecting Features dialog box, click the drop-down arrow for Microsoft Office, and then click Run all from My Computer.
  13. Expand the feature tree, and change the installation state to Not Available for any feature that you do not want to install.

Note The only installation states that you should set for any of the features are Run from My Computer, Run all from My Computer, or Not Available.

The following features do not perform well in the Windows Terminal Server environment, and the supported installation state for all of these features is Not Available:
    • All individual Office Assistant characters

Note Leave the Office Assistant feature as Run from My Computer. This setting installs the necessary files to support the Motionless Office Assistant (included in the Office 2000 Resource Kit), which you might want to install at a later time.
    • Microsoft Small Business Tools
    • Scanner and Camera Add-In
    • System Information
  14. Click Yes when you are asked to restart the computer.
  15. Log on as the same user, so that Microsoft Office can complete the installation.
