SYMPTOMS
Microsoft has released an update that corrects the permissions on the SNMP Parameters registry values in Microsoft 2000. The default permissions could allow a malicious user to gain additional privileges on an affected computer.
When you create the PermittedManagers and ValidCommunities registry keys for the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) service, any user has permission to read the contents of the keys because they are saved in plain text format.
