This article was previously published under Q266778

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to do a live broadcast of an MPEG-1 audio-video file, the encoder returns the following error message:
The request is invalid in the current state.

CAUSE

MPEG-1 files cannot be looped because of a limitation in the Windows Media Encoder and therefore cannot be used as a source for a live broadcast.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, you can use the Windows Media Encoder to convert the MPEG-1 content to a .wmv file before the live broadcast, and then you can use this file as the source for your broadcast.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Windows Media Encoder version 7.0.
