OL2000: Error Message: Invalid Page Fault in Module Fldpub.dll (266732)

SYMPTOMS

When you use the Net Folders feature from Outlook and you start Outlook, you may receive the following error message:
Outlook caused invalid page fault in module fldpub.dll at 015f:4c51a697.
or Outlook may start without the error message, but you do receive the error message when you try to send a Net Folders update or subscription.

NOTE: The memory address that is referenced in the error message may vary.

CAUSE

This error messages may be caused by either of the following behaviors:
  • There may be an improper registration of the components that the Net Folders feature uses to share items and send updates.

    -or-

  • There may be damage to the files that make up the Net Folders feature set.

RESOLUTION

Follow the steps in each of these methods until the behavior is resolved.

Method 1

When the Net Folders option is selected in Add or Remove Features tool in Outlook 2000 Setup, the Nfclean.exe utility is installed. If you run the Nfclean.exe utility, your Net Folders may be removed.

To use the Nfclean.exe utility to reset the Net Folders structure:
  1. Click Start, point to Find, and then click Files or Folders.
  2. In the Named box, type nfclean, click My Computer in the Look in box, click to select the Include Subfolders check box, and then click Find Now.
  3. Double-click Nfclean to run the program. This utility provides no user interface as it works. You may only see an hourglass pointer briefly.
  4. Start Outlook, and then test the Net Folders functionality.

Method 2

This method for refreshing the Net Folders feature involves turning off the Net Folders add-in. To turn off this add-in and refresh the Net Folders:
  1. On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Other tab.
  2. Click Advanced Options, and then click Add-In Manager.
  3. Click to clear the Net Folders check box.
  4. Click OK, click OK, and then click OK to close all of the dialog boxes.
  5. On the File menu, click Exit and Log Off, and then restart Outlook.
  6. On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Other tab.
  7. Click Advanced Options, and then click Add-In Manager.
  8. Click to select the Net Folders check box.
  9. Click OK, click OK, and then click OK to close all of the dialog boxes.
  10. On the File menu, click Exit and Log Off, and then restart Outlook to test the Net Folders functionality.

Method 3

If the steps outlined in the "Methods 1" and "Method 2" section do not resolve the error message, you must replace the key files in the Net Folders feature set:
  1. Click Start, point to Find, and then click Files or Folders.
  2. In the Named box, type fldpub.ecf, rwiz1.ecf, fldpub.dll, click My Computer in the Look in box, click to select the Include Subfolders check box, and then click Find Now.
  3. Right-click each file, one at a time, and then click Rename. Rename each file with a .old file name extension so that the files are named as follows:

    Fldpub.old
    Rwiz1.old
    Fldpub.old

  4. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  5. Double-click Add/Remove Programs, click Microsoft Office 2000, and then click Add/Remove.
  6. Click Repair Office.
  7. Click Repair errors in my Office installation. When you do this, the files that you renamed in step 3 are reinstalled.
  8. Restart Outlook, and then reinitiate Net Folders sharing.
