Access Permissions Are Replaced with Inherited Permissions from Parent Folder (266731)

SYMPTOMS

The permissions of the parent folder are added to a destination file even if the Allow inheritable permissions from parent to propagate to this object setting is disabled.

CAUSE

The ReplaceFile Win32 function does not apply Access Control Entries (ACEs) to the destination file from the source file correctly. Therefore, the Allow inheritable permissions from parent to propagate to this object setting is not copied and the default permissions are applied.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 2.
