Unsupported Scenarios with Time Compression (266720)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows Media Encoder 7
  • Microsoft Windows Media Encoder 7.1

This article was previously published under Q266720

SYMPTOMS

The following scenarios are not supported under the current release of the Windows Media Encoder:
  • Time compression with deinterlacing enabled (either live capture or transcoding).
  • Time compression with inverse telecine enabled (either live capture or transcoding).

CAUSE

The time compression algorithm uses a formula to remove certain audio and video data during the encoding process. The removal of these frames conflicts with the algorithm that is used by the deinterlacing and inverse telecine features.

WORKAROUND

In order for you to use the time compression feature in conjunction with deinterlacing or inverse telecine, Microsoft recommends that you first encode your content with the deinterlacing or inverse telecine features enabled, and then use the time compression feature to convert the archive.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
