SYMPTOMS

When you try to use the Application Center Microsoft Management Console (MMC) snap-in to attach to a cluster or cluster member, you must be logged on through an account that has administrative privileges on the computer on which you are running the MMC.

If this is not the case, and you expand the Application Center node in the MMC (which was previously connected to a cluster or member), you see an unknown state icon and you cannot interrogate any cluster or member properties. If you try to connect to a member or cluster by using the MMC, you receive an "Access Denied (0x80070005)" error message.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, log on to the computer by using an account that has administrator privileges on the computer on which you are running the MMC.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.

MORE INFORMATION

Steps to Reproduce the Behavior

  1. On a computer that has Application Center 2000 installed, log on as a user who is not in the Administrators group of that computer.
  2. Run the MMC snap-in for Application Center, and then try to connect to a cluster member or a cluster controller.
