XL: DDE Formulas Produce #NAME? Error in Shared Workbooks (266443)

SYMPTOMS

During an automatic update of a shared workbooks, Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE) formulas produce #NAME? errors.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when the following conditions are true:
  1. You save a workbook as a shared workbook and set the automatic update interval.

    -and-
  2. Another user enters a DDE formula.
When the workbook automatically updates, the cell that contains the DDE formula is not updated on other users' systems. Instead, the cell displays a #NAME error, and all information up to and including the pipe symbol (|) is missing in the formula bar.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
