SYMPTOMS

When you view a disk in a disk drive, the contents (the files) of that disk drive are displayed on your computer screen. After you change disks and press the F5 key, or use the View menu in Control Panel, when the screen is refreshed, the contents from the previously-read disk remain on your computer screen.

CAUSE

This behavior can be caused by either a faulty cable or a faulty disk change sensor in the disk drive. If the sensor fails, the controller does not receive a disk-changed signal from the disk drive to pass on to the computer's operating system. Since the operating system does not observe any changes within the disk drive, the new disk is not accessed when the screen is refreshed.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, you must replace either the cable or the disk drive.
