In Microsoft Windows Media Player 7 and 7.1, the disk-space requirements indicated by the Copy music at this quality slide bar (on the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the CD Audio tab) are not based on the length of the current compact disc from which you want to copy music. Therefore, you cannot rely on the accuracy of the disk-space figures displayed here.
CAUSE
Because of the nature of .wma compression, the sampling rate, and the variety of compact disc lengths, you may find it nearly impossible to make an entirely accurate estimate of the file size generated for each compact disc. If you require an accurate estimate, you must force your computer to perform a full read of the compact disc, a very time-consuming and still not completely accurate operation.
Instead, the listed sizes are based on a standard 74-minute compact disc with the sampling rate you have selected listed in kilobits per second (Kbps). The listed sizes are provided as a guide to expected file sizes, ensuring that you have enough room to copy the compact disc.

At present, your ability to base the size of the .wma files generated from the current compact disc is not a feature in development because of the amount of time it takes to do a full read of the compact disc and the performance loss your computer system may undergo while the compact disc size is calculated.
Your computer needs enough free space on its hard disk to copy all of the songs from any given compact disc. The shorter the compact disc and the fewer the number of songs, the less space the .wma files use.
