Memory Dump Is Not Written Correctly with No Entry in Event Log (266315)

SYMPTOMS

In rare instances, when a blue-screen "Stop" error occurs, the Memory.dmp file is not the correct size (generally, it will be much smaller than it should be). When this occurs, there is no indication of the problem in the event log.

RESOLUTION

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that this article describes. Apply it only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.
