FIX: Visual InterDev Stops Responding When You Create a Data Command (266308)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to create a Data command in Visual InterDev, the following error may occur:
DEVENV.EXE - Application Error
"Referenced memory at 'location'. Memory could not be read."

CAUSE

This problem can occur with Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) 2.1 Service Pack 1 because of some incompatibilities with the Microsoft Visual FoxPro driver (version 6.0.8428.0).

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, you can install MDAC 2.1 Service Pack 2 or later, which is available at the following Microsoft Web site:

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a bug in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in MDAC 2.1 Service Pack Service Pack 2.

Steps to Reproduce Behavior

  1. Open Visual InterDev and create a New Web Project.
  2. In the Project Explorer window, right-click Global.asa, and then click Add Data Connection. Follow the steps to create a connection.
  3. Right-click the new data connection, and then click Add Data Command.
