Special Function Keys May Not Work on Dell Laptop Computers (266247)

SYMPTOMS

When you start your computer and log on, the special function key functions may not work. For example, you can press Function+END to cause the BIOS to interpret the keystrokes and mute or "unmute" the sound. This does not work by default. After you perform this operation by using the graphical user interface, the keys start working.

RESOLUTION

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Windows 2000. This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 2.
