Certificate Server Is Unable to Issue Requests (266173)

SYMPTOMS

When an uninitialized variable makes a request to Certificate Server, Certificate Server may start, but it is unable to issue any requests or keep the Certificate Revocation List (CRL) updated.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because the incorrect extension data is requested when cvr.SortOrder is set to 2 (CVR_SORT_DESCEND).

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, obtain and install Service Pack One (SP1) for Windows 2000.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
