- the operating system: Microsoft Windows 2000
This article was previously published under Q266151 SYMPTOMS
When you install Exchange 2000 Server in an Active Directory domain in a forest, Active Directory users in another domain in the same forest
may be unable to create mailboxes on that server.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue:
- Run the Delegation Wizard; right-click the Exchange System Manager and then click Delegate. Give the administrator in the other domain full Exchange administrator rights.
- In the domain that does not contain the Exchange 2000 server, run Exchange 2000 Setup with the /domainprep switch.
- Install Exchange System Manager only on this domain controller.
- In the domain that hosts the Exchange 2000 server, start Exchange System Manager, click to expand the Recipients container, click Recipient Update Services, right-click Recipient Update Services, and then click New to create a new Recipient Update Service for the other domain.
- Create mailboxes for all of the users in the domain that does not contain the Exchange 2000 server, and have the Address List (Recipient Update) Service update those mailboxes with proxy addresses so that users can log on to the mailboxes. Create a new Address List Service.
