SYMPTOMS

If you disconnect an Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) 1394 cable from a computer that is networked by using Internet Protocol (IP) over 1394 (Request For Comments 2734), from all other network nodes, the IP Configuration utility (Winipcfg.exe) continues to display the connection and Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) information bound to the IEEE 1394 host controller.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, restart the computer.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

To restart your computer, click Start, click Shut Down, select Restart, and then click OK.

This issue occurs with host controllers that are compatible with the IEEE 1394 Open Host Controller Interface, where all of the IP-capable devices that were attached subsequently became disconnected.

No information is available for the IEEE 1394 host controller in Winipcfg.exe unless the device has been attached to another IP-capable IEEE 1394 device. After the computer has been disconnected from all IP-capable devices, all TCP/IP bindings to the IEEE 1394 host controller are removed.
