SYMPTOMS

When you press a key on your keyboard, the character that is displayed on the screen may be the character that is normally displayed when you hold down SHIFT as you press the key.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if both of the following conditions are true:
  • A function other than the default function is assigned to button 4 or button 5 on the pointing device.
  • You held down one of the arrow keys on your keyboard while you repeatedly clicked button 4 or button 5 on the pointing device.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
