Windows 2000 Hangs at "Preparing Network Connections" Screen on Multiple-Processor Computers (266132)

SYMPTOMS

Windows 2000 may stop responding (hang) on multiple-processor computers during startup when the "Preparing Network Connections" screen is displayed. When this problem occurs, you may find the following entry in the registry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\AuditBaseObjects: REG_DWORD = 1

CAUSE

There behavior may be caused by an infinite loop when the AuditBaseObjects registry value is set to 1.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
