"Setup Has Failed" Installing Windows Media Player 7 or 7.1 (266102)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to install Windows Media Player 7 or 7.1, you may receive the following error message:
Setup has failed - the computer must be restarted now.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if Zip Magic is installed.

RESOLUTION

Either uninstall Zip Magic or right-click the Zip Magic icon and then click to clear the Show Zip Folders check box. Then, install Windows Media Player again.

MORE INFORMATION

When the download of Windows Media Player 7 or 7.1 Setup does not succeed, it creates a file called Wmsetup.log. Because Zip Magic takes control of files with .zip extensions, you see the following error message in this log:
WMC_CopyFile: Could not find file.
