  • Microsoft Windows Media Encoder 7
  • Microsoft Windows Media Encoder 7.1

This article was previously published under Q266100

SYMPTOMS

When you use the Windows Media Encoder to capture portions of a screen in a dual monitor scenario, you may receive an error message when you try to capture regions on the secondary monitor, or when you try to capture regions across the two monitors.

CAUSE

At this time, the Windows Media Screen version 7.0 codec only supports capturing on the primary screen. For the codec to work properly, capturing must be done on the primary monitor.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Windows Media Encoder version 7.0.
