SUMMARY

The Cdinfo.exe file is a diagnostic tool that checks your CD-ROM drive to see if the drive is digitally capable to play audio CD content. To start the Cdinfo.exe file, follow these steps:
  1. Go to the Tools\PSSutil folder on the Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me) CD and copy the Cdinfo.exe file to your local drive.

    NOTE: For information about how to copy files or folders, perform the following steps:

    1. Click Start, and then click Help.
    2. Click the Index tab, and then type:

      copying

    3. Double-click the "copying files, folders" topic, and then double-click the "overview" topic.
  2. Remove the Windows Me CD and insert an audio CD.

    NOTE: If Microsoft Windows Media Player opens automatically, close it.
  3. Click Start, and then point to Run.
  4. In the dialog box, type:

    command

  5. At the command prompt, type:

    Cdinfo.exe

    (For example, this file may be located in: C:\Windows\desktop\Cdinfo.exe)
  6. Press Enter.

If your CD-ROM drive is unable to digitally play an audio CD, you may receive the following error message:
We have determined that Windows Media Player cannot accurately read your CD drive digitally. Windows Media Player will therefore switch to reading your CD drive in analog mode. Your CDs will play, but the following items will not work when playing CDs: Visualizations, SRS Wow effect, Graphic Equalizer.
