Computer Hangs When You Remove PCMCIA Device During Standby (266010)

When you remove a Personal Computer Memory Card International Association
(PCMCIA) adapter from your Windows 98-based portable computer while it is in Standby mode, your computer may stop responding (hang).
CAUSE
The issue can occur when you remove a PCMCIA adapter while your Windows 98-based computer is in Standby mode and the "When I close the lid of my portable computer" feature is enabled.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, do not remove PCMCIA devices while your computer is in Standby mode. Instead, you can remove the PCMCIA adapter by using one
of the following three methods:
- Double-click the PCMCIA icon on the right side of the taskbar, and then choose Unplug or Eject Hardware before you remove your PCMCIA adapter.
- Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click PCMCIA or PC Card (PCMCIA). Choose Unplug or Eject Hardware before you remove your PCMCIA adapter.
- Resume your computer from Standby mode, and then remove the adapter.
