Works 6: Formatting Applied to More Than One Series in Chart (265937)

SYMPTOMS

In a worksheet, when you format the shading and color of one series in a series chart, another series is also formatted in the same way.

For example, if you create a three-series bar chart, and then format the first series with the color blue and the pattern format 50%, both the first and third series are formatted in this way.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur when:
  • You format the selected series with the same color as another series in the chart.

    -and-
  • You format the selected series with a pattern.
The series that has the same color as the selected series inherits the pattern of the selected series.

RESOLUTION

To work around this issue, format the color and pattern of the selected series to a color other than the ones that already appear in chart view:
  1. Start Works Spreadsheet and open the worksheet that you want to create series charts in.
  2. Click to select the three-series data entries that you want to use to create the chart.
  3. On the Tools menu, click Create New Chart.
  4. In the New Chart dialog box, click the Basic Options tab.
  5. Click the chart type that you want, and then click OK.
  6. In the chart view, click Shading and Color on the Format menu.
  7. In the Select series box, click the series that you want to format.
  8. In the Color box, click a color that is not applied to the other series.
  9. Click Format, and then click Close.
