Works 6 Error Message: Cannot Start the Source Application for This Object (265894)

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to insert a new Microsoft Works Spreadsheet worksheet or a chart object into a Microsoft Excel worksheet, you receive the following error message:
Cannot start the source application for this object.
The object is not inserted.

The message appears whether or not Works Spreadsheet is running.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because you cannot create a new Works spreadsheet or chart object in Excel.

RESOLUTION

You cannot create a new Works worksheet or chart in Microsoft Excel, but you can insert an already existing Works worksheet or chart file. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Start Microsoft Excel.
  2. Select the cell(s) in which you want to insert the object.
  3. On the Insert menu, click Object.
  4. Click the Create from File tab.
  5. Click Browse, and then browse to find the Works worksheet or chart file that you want.
  6. In the Browse dialog box, click the Works worksheet or chart file that you want, and then click Insert.
  7. Click OK.
