OL2000: Fax Addresses for Your Contacts Are Not Updated Correctly (265866)

SYMPTOMS

When you change the display name of a Contact with "Fax" as the address type, the fax address is not updated and the initial display name is listed in the Fax box.

Note that if you change information in a phone number box instead, the fax address is updated correctly.

CAUSE

When Outlook computes the fax number, Outlook incorrectly uses the old display name.

RESOLUTION

A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to computers that are experiencing this specific problem.

WORKAROUND

When you change the fax address, make sure that you change the phone number as well.
