SideWinder: Volume Control Icon Appears on the Windows Taskbar (265844)

SYMPTOMS

When you connect one of the Microsoft SideWinder Universal Serial Bus (USB) game controllers that are listed at the beginning of this article to your computer, the volume control icon may unexpectedly appear on the Microsoft Windows taskbar.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if both of the following conditions are true:
  • You connected the SideWinder USB game controller to a Microsoft Windows 98-based computer.
  • This is the first time that you connect the SideWinder USB game controller to the computer.

To remove the volume control icon from the Windows taskbar:
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Multimedia.
  3. Click the Audio tab.
  4. Click to clear the Show volume control on the taskbar check box, and then click OK.
  5. Close Control Panel.
