Some DHCP and WINS Files Are Not Uninstalled with SP1 Removal (265821)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Server

This article was previously published under Q265821

SYMPTOMS

If you install Service Pack 1 (SP1) in Windows 2000 Server, add the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) and Windows Internet Name Service (WINS) components, and then uninstall SP1, some DHCP and WINS files are not uninstalled. Specifically, the files in the System32\Dllcache folder are replaced, but the files in the System32 folder are not replaced. Also, the Dhcpssvc.dll file does not exist in the $NtServicePackUninstall$ folder.

CAUSE

Some of the files do not exist in the System32 folder before you install SP1; those files are not copied to the uninstall folder when you install SP1. When you install DHCP and WINS, the components use the SP1 files from the System32\Dllcache folder. When you uninstall SP1, these files are not altered because they do not exist in the uninstall folder.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
