Error Message May Be Generated When You Run Update.exe from a Network Drive (265809)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Server
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional
This article was previously published under Q265809 SYMPTOMS
When you map a network drive and then try to run Update.exe from it, you may receive the following error messages:
Service Pack Setup error
Service Pack Setup could not locate the Service Pack files.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur because Update.exe is not designed to be run remotely across the network. The Update.exe program uses an Update.inf file which contains Source Media Descriptions to disk folder labels.
RESOLUTION
To work around this behavior, copy all files from the network share folders into a single folder on a local hard disk or a network share, and then run Update.exe from that folder.
