Cannot Preview Audio When Capturing Content with Windows Movie Maker (265579)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition
This article was previously published under Q265579 SYMPTOMS
In Microsoft Windows Movie Maker, you may not hear audio when you are capturing content.
CAUSE
This issue can occur because the sound card drivers do not bridge the line input to the line output or speaker output. This issue can also occur because you are capturing video from a device that is connected through an Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (IEEE) 1394 Open Host Controller Interface (OHCI) controller.
Audio preview is not a function of Windows Movie Maker, it is a function of the sound card. Many sound card drivers, by default, bridge the line input to speaker output or line output. This enables you to hear the content as it is being captured.
Digital video (DV) devices connected to 1394 OHCI interfaces are not normally connected directly to the input of the sound card. Therefore, you cannot preview sound while you are capturing audio with these devices.
NOTE: Even though you cannot hear the sound while you are capturing content, audio is still being captured.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, contact the manufacturer of the sound card for an updated driver that supports this functionality.
