SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to record a movie in Windows Movie Maker, you may receive the following error message:
There is not enough free disk space available on drive C:\ to continue this operation.
Movie Maker requires at least 300 MB of free disk space on this drive.
Please free up disk space and then try again.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because Windows Movie Maker requires at least 300 megabytes (MB) of free disk space to record a movie.

RESOLUTION

To work around this behavior, make sure that you have at least 300 MB of free disk space to record a movie, or change the location of your Windows Movie Maker temporary storage location. To change the location of your Windows Movie Maker temporary storage location:
  1. Start Windows Movie Maker.
  2. On the View menu, click Options.
  3. In the Temporary storage box, under File locations, type the path to another drive or partition, and then click OK.
