SYMPTOMS

The Window Media Player 7 ActiveX control (OCX) does not correct an incorrectly formatted file address (or URL). When you try to use an incorrectly formatted file address, Windows Media Player cannot locate or play the file, but you receive no error message.

RESOLUTION

Verify that the file address that is being passed to the Windows Media Player control is correctly formatted.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

This problem can occur if "parent.location.href" is used to get the HREF value, which is subsequently used to create the URL value in the Media Player object.
