FP2000: Themes Dialog Box Flashes and Then Disappears (265288)

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft FrontPage 2000, if you attempt to change themes on a web, the Themes dialog box may flash on the screen and then disappear.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if the preference file, Cmdui.prf, has become corrupted, or if the FrontPage 2000 registry entry has become corrupted.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, use one of the following methods in the order of preference shown:

Method 1: Delete Cmdui.prf

  1. Click Start, point to Find, and then click Files or Folders.
  2. In the Named box, type cmdui.prf.
  3. In the Look in box, select the drive on which FrontPage is installed, and then click Find Now.
  4. When the file is found, right-click the file name in the Name column, and then click Delete on the shortcut menu.NOTE: A new copy of the file is created when FrontPage is started.

Method 2: Delete the FrontPage Registry Entry

WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.
  1. Click Start, and then click Run.
  2. Type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.
  3. Click My Computer to expand the registry.
  4. On the Registry menu, click Export Registry File.
  5. Back up the registry file to a safe place on the hard disk or to a removable drive.
  6. Expand the following folders:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft

  7. Right-click the FrontPage folder and click Delete on the shortcut menu.
  8. Close the registry editor and restart your computer.NOTE: This registry key is created when FrontPage is started up for the first time. If the key is deleted, it is re-created the next time that FrontPage is started.
