Unable to Use Re-sort Button to Sort Start Menu (265251)

SYMPTOMS

When you click the Re-sort button on the Advanced tab in the Taskbar and Start Menu Properties dialog box, some folders under the Programs menu may not be sorted properly.

CAUSE

This issue can occur if you attempt to sort the Start menu after several new folders are created under the Programs menu.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, follow these steps:
  1. Right-click any item on the Programs menu.
  2. Click Sort by Name.

NOTE: To use the Re-sort button, manually move one of the new folders, and then sort the Start menu.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

If you install one or more programs or you manually create multiple folders in Windows Explorer, some of the new folders under the Programs menu may not be sorted properly when you attempt to sort the Start menu.
