SYMPTOMS

When you use Visual InterDev 6.0 to write comments in Active Server Pages (ASP), all text between the "<%" and "%>" is marked with yellow color. Normally, only the "<%" and "%>" characters are displayed with a yellow background and the comment between them appears as normal text.

CAUSE

This occurs only on computers on which Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 was installed in "compatibility mode" (to have both Internet Explorer 5 and Internet Explorer 4 running at the same time). Visual InterDev 6.0 displays comments correctly when only Internet Explorer 4 or only Internet Explorer 5 (without compatibility mode) are installed on the computer.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, uninstall Internet Explorer 5, then reinstall the program without "compatibility mode".

MORE INFORMATION

Steps to Reproduce Behavior

  1. Install Internet Explorer 4 and Visual InterDev 6.0.
  2. Start Internet Explorer 5 installation. Choose Install Minimal or customize your browser.
  3. Click the Advanced button, and select Compatibility - Allows you to run both Internet Explorer 5 and Internet Explorer 4 at the same time.

When Internet Explorer 5 installation is finished, all comments in Visual InterDev 6.0 become colored.
