FP2000: Users Cannot Browse a Restricted Subweb (265207)
The information in this article applies to:
This article was previously published under Q265207 SYMPTOMS
When you attempt to browse a restricted subweb from an unrestricted parent web, you may receive the following error message:
Authorization Required
This server could not verify that you are authorized to access the document
requested. Either you supplied the wrong credentials (e.g., bad password), or
your browser doesn't understand how to supply the credentials required.
CAUSE
The restricted subweb was inheriting the permissions from the parent web because Use same permissions as parent web was selected.
RESOLUTION
By default, all subwebs use the same permission settings as their parent webs, but you can set unique permissions for a subweb.
To set unique permissions for a subweb, follow these steps:
- Start Microsoft FrontPage and open the subweb for which you want to set unique permissions.
- On the Tools menu, point to Security, and then click Permissions.
- Click Use unique permissions for this web, and then click Apply.
- Click the Users tab.
- Select a user, and then click Edit.
- Under User can, select the type of access that you want to give the user.
- Repeat steps 5 and 6 to add other users.
Users with permission are now able to click the link from the parent web, authenticate their permission, and browse the restricted subweb.
NOTE: If the subweb resides in the _private folder of the parent web, move the subweb to a different folder, and then edit the link on the parent web to point to the subweb pages.
