Proxy Server Might Cause an Access Violation When Shutting Down (265182)

SYMPTOMS

Microsoft Proxy Server 2.0 might fail to initialize properly if the Proxy Server is unable to resolve it's own hostname. This also causes World Wide Web (WWW), Simple Mail Transport Protocol (SMTP), File Transfer Protocol (FTP) and any other Internet Information Server (IIS) process to fail.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, add a hostname entry into the Proxy Server host file.

RESOLUTION

A supported fix that corrects this problem is now available from Microsoft, but it has not been fully regression tested and should be applied only to systems experiencing this specific problem. To resolve this problem immediately, contact Microsoft Product Support Services to obtain the fix.
