Computer Enters Standby Mode After Random Amount of Time (265115)

After you enable hibernation support, your computer may enter Standby mode after a random amount of time, and this may occur even though the standby time has been set to "never" in the Power Management tool in Control Panel.
CAUSE
This problem can occur when Windows 98 Second Edition incorrectly triggers on the hibernation timeout. Note that this value is not available for alteration in the Power Management tool in Control Panel.
RESOLUTIONA supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that this article describes. Apply it only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. To resolve this problem, contact Microsoft Product Support Services to obtain the hotfix. WORKAROUND
To work around this problem:
- Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Power Management.
- Click the Hibernation tab
- Click to clear the Enable hibernate support check box.
- Click the Power Scheme tab
- Set the standby time to a value other than never. If you are using a computer with battery power, also change the standby time to a value other than never.
- Click Apply.
- Set the standby time back to never.
- Click Apply.
- Click the Hibernation tab.
- Click to select the Enable hibernate support check box.
NOTE: This procedure must be done for each power scheme on your computer.
