Cannot Uninstall Internet Explorer After Installing Windows 2000 Service Pack 1 (265078)

SYMPTOMS

After you install Windows 2000 Service Pack 1 (SP1) on a computer that has Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.01 SP1 or Internet Explorer 5.5 installed, there is no option to remove Internet Explorer in the Add/Remove Programs tool in Control Panel.

CAUSE

When you install Windows 2000 SP1 on a computer that has Internet Explorer 5.01 SP1 or Internet Explorer 5.5 installed, it removes the option in the Add/Remove Programs tool to remove Internet Explorer.

RESOLUTION

To uninstall Internet Explorer, you must first uninstall Windows 2000 SP1. Internet Explorer then appears as an option in the Add/Remove Programs tool. You can then uninstall Internet Explorer to return you to your previous browser version.
