Windows Media Player Pauses Frequently During Playback on Pocket PC (264964)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows Pocket PC with Windows CE 3.0
This article was previously published under Q264964 SYMPTOMS
On a Pocket PC, when you play an audio file with Microsoft Windows Media Player, the player may pause, continue, and then pause again during the playback of each track.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur if Microsoft Reader is open to the Library view while Windows Media Player is playing a track. The Library view displays the list of installed eBook (electronic book) titles.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this behavior, you can either use another window instead of the Library view or you can shut down the Microsoft Reader, as explained in the following methods:
- In Microsoft Reader, select a title from the list of installed eBooks. This request moves the focus of the Microsoft Reader to an eBook instead of the Library.
- Quit Microsoft Reader by performing the following steps:
- Click Start, point to Settings, click System, and then click Memory.
- Click the Running Programs tab, click Microsoft Reader, and then click Stop.
MORE INFORMATION
This behavior is more likely to occur on older palm-sized PCs with slower processors that have been upgraded. This behavior should not occur in newer-model Pocket PCs.
On some devices the Windows for Pocket PC software can be upgraded by means of a ROM chip in the back of your palm-sized PC. Not all devices, however, can be upgraded to this ROM chip. Check with the manufacturer of your device for upgrade information.
