Computer Requires Restart Prior to Setting "Import Current Desktop Toolbar Settings" (264917)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Internet Explorer Administration Kit 5.5

This article was previously published under Q264917

SYMPTOMS

When you use the Internet Explorer Administration Kit, your computer must be restarted before you can set the Import Current Desktop Toolbar settings option. However, the toolbars are not imported after you restart the computer.

CAUSE

This problem can occur when you create a package with Internet Explorer Administration Kit. The desktop or toolbar settings are from the following registry key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\ Streams\Desktop\Toolbars

The Toolbar.inf file is based on these registry settings. The registry does not properly reflect the desktop toolbar configuration until after the computer is restarted. So when the package is installed the Toolbar.inf file reflects the default desktop.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, set the desktop with toolbars you want, restart the computer, and then use the Internet Explorer Administration Kit to create a package.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
