XL97: Result Of Custom Function Appears In Another Workbook When Recalculated (264757)

When you press the F9 key to recalculate all open workbooks, a value may be displayed in a cell unexpectedly. For example, a value appears unexpectedly in the same cell location of the active worksheet as it does in the worksheet that actually contains the user-defined function.
The value shown in the cell has not actually replaced the original cell value since it only exists as a residual video image. You can confirm the original value is unchanged by selecting the cell and looking at the value shown in the Formula bar.
CAUSE
This behavior may occur if all of the following conditions are true:
- A workbook containing a user-defined function entered in a worksheet cell is open.
-and-
- Another workbook is currently active.
-and-
- The active workbook or all open workbooks are recalculated, either by a change on the active workbook or by pressing F9 or CTRL+ALT+F9.
WORKAROUND
To correct this behavior, use either of the following methods:

Minimize and then maximize the affected workbook.
-or-
- Scroll horizontally or vertically through the file until the affected cell is no longer visible on-screen and then scroll back to your original position in the workbook.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
This problem no longer occurs in Microsoft Excel 2000.
